Don't know the original source for this photo, but it was stuff like this that got me interested in electronics as a child. Can you imagine the reception you would get if you showed up at an airport with a set-up like this? Pun intended, of course...
A High-Performance Multi-Band Amateur Radio
Transceiver -
A photo of my
latest project, a 20- and 40-meter CW amateur radio transceiver, custom designed
and built using a modular methodology.
An Introduction to MPEG Video Compression - This paper is the companion to a tutorial originally presented at the DSP World Spring Design Conference in Santa Clara, California - April 1998.
A Complete DSP Design Example Using FIR Filters - Originally published in the amateur radio magazine QEX - July, 1996. This article describes how typical DSP chips are used to efficiently process simple digital filter structures of interest to the amateur radio community.
Modern Digital Design for the Radio Amateur - Originally published in the amateur radio magazine QEX - December, 1997. This article describes a homebrew DDS-based tuner designed using VHDL and logic synthesis techniques, and implemented with an Altera FPGA chip.
Use of the TI TMS320C30 Chip in the Design of a Programmable HDTV Video Decoder - A paper originally presented at the International Conference on Signal Processing Applications and Technology in Santa Clara, California - September, 1993.
HDTV Motion Vector Decoding With a TMS320C30 - A paper originally presented at the International conference on Signal Processing Applications and Technology in Dallas, Texas - October 1994.
A Hardware Architecture for Efficient Implementation of Real-Time Weighted Median Filters - An unpublished paper that describes a patented technique for designing these difficult filter structures in hardware.
Glider-Cam: Amateur Television Flies on a Hang Glider - A description of a 439 MHz. live television transmitter for hang gliding that was described in the November 2000 issue of Hang Gliding magazine and the Spring 2000 issue of Amateur Television Quarterly. A seminar on this subject was presented at the 2001 Hamvention in Dayton, Ohio.
A Homebrew 40-Meter CW Transceiver - A first attempt at a homebrew amateur radio transceiver designed and built from the ground up. This radio was the test bench for some interesting ideas, such as an FPGA-based tuner, as well as a graphical PC interface written in Visual Basic.
Patents Granted - The following links go directly to the United States Patent and Trademark Office site. To view at a text level, you do not need any special software. To see the actual patent format with diagrams, you will need to have a TIFF viewer installed. If you want to do this, follow the directions on the USPTO site.
